K OF C COUNCIL #717 - MEETING OF JUNE 1ST, 2011 -MEETING CALLED TO ORDER @ 7PM BY GRAND KNIGHT, BOB PARK. -MAY MINUTES APPROVED AS PRESENTED, WITH CORRECTION OF DATE FOR PIG ROAST TO JULY 14TH. -MEMBERSHIP: NO REPORT -GRAND KNIGHT BOB PARK EXTENDED THANK YOUS FOR THE HELP WITH THE RECENT ST. VINCENT DE PAUL DRAW DOWN. -TREASURER’S REPORT WAS APPROVED AS PRESENTED. -POLICE FIRE/PIG ROAST IS THURSDAY, JULY 14TH. HELP WILL BE NEEDED. THANK YOU TO DON HUFTLIN FOR DONATION OF THE HOGS. -FINANCIAL SECRETARY REPORT: CURRENTLY 254 MEMBERS / 32 HONORARY LIFE. CLUB IS IN GOOD STANDING. -WADE DUERKES REPORTED THAT 51 WERE SERVED AT THE MAY MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST. WADE IS LOOKING TO GET THE YOUTH GROUPS SCHEDULED FOR NEXT YEAR’S BREAKFASTS. SEE WADE IF YOU KNOW OF AN INTERESTED GROUP. -JOHN FARRIS REPORTED ON MEMORIAL DAY FLAG DISPLAY. LOOKING AT GETTING MORE POLES & FLAGS. -MEETING SUSPENDED FOR INSTALLATION OF NEW OFFICERS FOR THE COMING YEAR. -DISTRICT DEPUTY SAM BERKES: DEGREE IN WARRENVILLE ON JUNE 12TH. 1ST DEGREE @ NEWMAN CENTER ON JUNE 12TH @ 5:30PM. SEE SAM IF ANYONE INTERESTED IN STARTING UP 1ST DEGREE TEAM @ 717. -4TH DEGREE - DAVE WILLIAMS: INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS IS SATURDAY, AUG. 20TH. -GOOD OF THE ORDER: JORDAN GALLAGHER JIM HAVERT (WHO HAS PASSED AWAY - BROTHER-IN-LAW OF JEFF WHELAN) MEETING ADJOURNED. From The Grand Knight The next Knights of Columbus meeting is December 7, which is also the 70th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The meeting will have a Christmas theme this month. All attendees please wear a “Santa” hat, and “Merry Christmas” will be the often spoken words of the evening. All Knights are invited to this festive meeting. A meal will be served at 6:00 with the meeting starting at 7:00. At this meeting, we will discuss adding additional people to the committee for the Appreciation Pig Roast Dinner. This event was very successful last year and we hope to increase its success additionally in 2012. Also, Matt V. has completed his tour of duty with the Cornfest Beer Garden and a new Chairman or Chairmen will be needed for 2012. We will be discussing this situation at the December meeting. The Tootsie Roll Drive will also need a new chairman. Jim L. has also completed his tour of duty and will pass the position on to a new person. The organization of the drive has been honed to perfection during the last couple of years and Jim will help by passing his knowledge on. Council #717 has been invited to organize a group to attend the Chicago Wolves Hockey game on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. We will be discussingthis event at the meeting. Other councils are using this as a fundraiser. Please come with ideas. If we have a group of 30 or more, each receives a free hat. The evening is being referred to as Knight at the Rink. At the last meeting, we approved the request for membership of Vince McCabe, the president of the Village of Malta. All Knights are invited to this festive occasion on the 7th. Before the meeting, Al will serve the beverage of your choice to add to the festive occasion and help our members enter into this festive season.

Dan Faivre will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Morrie Benson will lead the Hail Mary near the
